Something that has appeared on my radar recently is Gustavo Niemeyer's geohash (see wikipedia article for further explanation). I had a quick look and it was very easy to add Geohash support to Minimap. The extension will now recognise geohash.org links (drag and drop onto sidebar, or decode from context menu) and plot them on the map. I have also added the ability to encode a geohash for your address list items from the share menu or from within the Preview Panel.
I'll be honest, I haven't yet sat down to fully look at the geohash principle and assess it's aims and possibilities, but if these links are going to be present on webpages it makes sense for Minimap to be able to decode them.
This will hit the streets in the 0.3.1 version at the begnning of August, and is largely possible thanks to David Troys javascript library for geohash. |

New SVN and Ticket System |

I have now created a project on Assembla.com to host the Minimap code in an SVN/Trac repository (click here). Assembla also provides a ticketing system so please feel free to report any bugs.
I would definately welcome anyone to join the dev team and add/amend code in the repository, particularly if you are able to improve my javascript and make it more object orientated. |

Introducing the Preview Panel |

New for Firefox 3 users, the Map Panel offers quick and easy access to addresses and directions without having preload and save in the Sidebar or Map Tab. 
I am super pleased with this one, it has been niggling me for about a year now about the speed in which it takes to quickly preview an address. Firefox 3 has finally enabled me to do this, so please be sure to check it out in version 0.3 when it hits AMO. |

Everyone is buzzing about the new Google Earth web browser plugin, and rightly so. I have added Google Earth Maptpye to the Minimap extension (as well as Google's Terrain map type) and it should appear on Mozilla Addons in a day or two once the review period is up.
Now all we need is Google to hurry up with a Mac version of the plugin....... |

Just downloaded Firefox 3 Beta 5 for Mac OS X and am happy to report that the small number of issues I was having with Minimap and the Firefox 3 betas is reducing. Geodiscovery and right click "Minimap Sidebar/Map Tab locate..." now work. However, right clicking a link and selecting Open link in Minimap Sidebar/Map Tab does not work. Hopefully it is a known FX3 issue, otherwise will try to find out exactly what is going on. |

With the release of Streetview into the Google API, I have had a quick go at intergrating this into the Minimap Sidebar and Map Tab. It is unlikely I will keep this for the next release as it takes up far too much of the already limited sidebar space. However, have put it up for club members to have a look at if they wish.

Just a quick note to highlight a few recent changes to the site. Firstly, I have added a new page to the Help section called Share Locations - please note the the Get Lat/Lng HTML addition will not be available until the 0.2.4 Firefox release (Flock 0.8.6). I have also added all the text for the Donors Club extra help pages, although I still need to add some images. Finally a quick aside, Bruce over at geotagicons.com was kind enough to feature the Minimap Sidebar/geoFlock in the Developer Showcase section! |
 If you are into geotagging at all, please make sure you check out the geotag icons project. I’ll be looking to incorporate this into the next release of the Minimap Sidebar to replace the current geodiscovery icon. Nice work Bruce! |
